The South End

Progress occurring in our community.

It takes a village to fight back against poverty. None of this would be possible without our local partners.

The South End of Albany is an historic neighborhood with a diverse population and many assets. While the neighborhood suffers from the blight of vacant & abandoned properties, it also has many assets, including the recently renovated Howe Library, and the Capital South Campus Center.

It has four active neighborhood associations, as well as AVillage…, Inc., that provide a forum for community issues, and opportunities for civic engagement.

It is also a very well studied neighborhood. The 2007  Capital South Plan is still a guide to development of the neighborhood, and the more recent SUNY study, Albany’s South End — A Place to LIve, Play and Grow, has more recent information and suggestions on the development of the neighborhood.
